We recently arrived in Wuhan after spending the night on the sleeper train. We left Shanghai at 10pm and arrived this morning about 7:20am. I actually got some good sleep in and was awake at 5am to start watching the countryside in the morning light. It was quite foggy for the most part but you could see people starting to work in the rice fields and go to market. A lot of buildings looked as though they did not have windows but found out that condominiums are sold with only the exterior structure completed. All internal including windows are the responsibility of the new owner. Owners in China can only hold onto the condo until 2061 and then it reverts back to government owners. So you can only lease it for up to 70 years if you bought it in 1991. The actual land it sits on is always owned by the government.
Upon arrival in Wuhan, we got a chance to work out a bit by hauling our luggage up and down stairs and streets to reach the bus we used to get to the university. We started out with breakfast at a hotel that is consistent with the other hotel we were at, dim sum. I love it!! Afterwards we headed to the university and the dormitory that we will be at for the next 5 days. What a difference from Shanghai!! They are definately more along the lines of a hostel.
After purchasing a food card for meals at the student center, we met a student named Apollo who is studying the environment. He was kind enough to help us get to a local internet cafe so we could update our journals & email folks.
We're heading out for a tour of the campus in a few so more later.
