READING ASSIGNMENTS

Those enrolled as BADM 101 are assigned chapters 6-20 in the Chinese Economy book.

Those enrolled as either BADM 398 or 498 are assigned chapters 4-20 in the book.

Those enrolled in the MBA program are assigned the entire book including the “Introduction.”

BADM 101 students need to pick up the CD (behind the counter) in the A.S. Bookstore.

As previously mentioned, I strongly advise everyone to read the entire book to get the most out of the experience.

Everyone is to have the entire readings packet read before class on May 30th.

Everyone is to have read the Chinese Economy book from at least their
starting point (see above) through chapter 15 by the time our plane
lands in Shanghai on June 2nd.

Group 1 - Based on the reading "The Faces of Chinese Power" how do you see China's political, economic and intellectual power today? What are your personal insights and perspectives?
Group 2 - Based on the reading "Computer-Related Technostress In China"
how is technostress manifesting itself amongst the Chinese workforce.
How does this compare to the related phenomenon in the United States.
How does this compare to your personal experience?
Group 3 - Based on the reading "Knowledge Management In China"
how is knowledge managed across different corporate settings? How does
this compare with similar settings in the United States? How does this
compare with any work related experiences you are familiar with?
Group 4 - Based on the reading "IT Is Not For Everyone In China"
what factors come into play in deciding whether or not to implement IT
solutions into Chinese businesses? How does this compare to similar
situations in the United States? How does this compare with any work
related experiences you are familiar with?
Group 5 - Based on the reading "Diffusion, Use, And Effect Of The Internet In China"
how does the rollout of the internet effect cultural change in China?
How does this compare to the United States? How does this compare to
your own experience in your personal life?
Group 6 - Based on the reading "China On The Rise"
what are the major challenges to and suspicions about the present
course and rate of growth in China? How has this recently been framed
in the United States during this week's trade talks? What are your
personal feelings about China in the era of 21st century globalization?
Group 7 - Based on the reading "Should Government Controls Keep You from Investing In China?"
how have the various company stocks covered faired since January 1,
2007? How have the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges compared in
performance in 2006 and 2007? How have they compared to the DJIA,
S&P, and NASDAQ over that period of time. Do you personally invest
in Chinese corporations or indexed Chinese funds? If so why, if not why
not?
Of course everyone will have read every reading and be
prepared to contribute to each conversation. The designated group is
responsible for giving an overview and then leading subsequent
discussion.

Wednesday March 30th, 2007
- Each student is required to keep a journal with at least 2 pages of entries per day. This can be done in a binder, on paper and then copied and handed in after we return to the US.
- This is a document to look back on later in life and reflect on your trip
- This will help with writing your paper
- Reflect on your experience and your perception against the reading
- The written portion of the class requirement is to be completed once we return to the US. This paper can be done individually or in pairs.
- 1 - person 20-25 pages
- 2 - persons 35-40 pages
- The MBA students will follow instructions from Roy Boykin.
- Keep a journal of your trip
- Write a paper on the benefits of the trip to your MBA degree and career (4 to 5 pages – double spaced 12 point type)
- Write a paper on the knowledge gained on the trip and how it relates to your MBA coursework (4 to 5 pages – double spaced 12 point type)
